Notice of 1080 Baiting - Feral Pigs
The NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a 1080 (Sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program targeting Feral Pigs in Burrinjuck Nature Reserve. This program is aimed at protecting the endangered Crimson spider orchid which is present in the reserve. It is also recognised that feral pigs can have significant impacts on surrounding agricultural enterprises. The program is scheduled to commence on Thursday 1st October 2026 and conclude by Wednesday 14th October 2026. The control sites are located within the reserve, and all baiting locations will be signposted. This program complements aerial shooting and trapping programs run by NPWS in Burrinjuck Nature Reserve. Domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS Estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs should be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance. If you have any further questions, please call the NPWS Queanbeyan area office on (02) 6229 7166.
